On the W&S scopes I have examined the screw holes for the .30-06 range table do not penetrate the scope body cover. This story has been repeated in several publications; it is not correct in my observation and would make very little sense. Most likely, if the screw holes did in some cases penetrate the cover to the interior this would have been due to manufacturing defects. Those holes were probably filled at the time the plates were removed (presumably at Warner & Swasey Ltd. before shipment to Canadaicon) However, the filling, whatever it was, has probably dried and fallen out or been knocked out by the forces of firing etc.
