Interesting story from that battle: a tired GI like these guys was sitting against a tree when a German
officer stepped around from the back of it, put his Luger to the GI's head, and pulled the trigger. The pistol went "Click," the Yank whirled and shot the German dead. When they examined the Luger, they found it had misfired because of a mismatched sideplate that didn't fit quite right. Europe never had SA's fanaticism about interchangeability.
