New lower price on GI Carbines at Big 5
If anybody's interested in one of the CAI imports at Big 5 Sporting Goods, they've changed what used to be the sale price of $699, and that's now the regular price. They also have a current "email coupon" that's good for 15% off on one regular priced gun. Using the coupon would get the final price down to about $595. I looked at an Inland while I was there, but didn't think the particular gun was quite worth it. Just a hint in case you want to check out your local store. - Bob

Bob,
Someone sent me a discount coupon for ammo at Big 5 so I went there today. First off, even with the discount their ammo was more then I pay at my LGS.
The carbines I saw (4) at my local Big 5 looked pretty bad. Rough gouged and dinged stocks. Very worn finish. No slings or oilers. I wouldn't have paid $600 for any of them. Maybe better luck at other stores.

Jim,
I agree on their ammo pricing - but you'd have to do a lot of shopping in my area to find a better deal on a "not that bad" USGI carbine, complete with a WWII stock. They're nothing close to the deal you got on your recent Inland, though.

No Big 5 out here. I occasionally chat with a now retired VP from Big 5.
I have to brag about my recent Inland. I got it for $425. IP/S'G' numbered front sight. Winchester type I slide, EM-Q flat bolt, Q-NL type III t-housing. Marlin barrel. I needed that sight, but the operating slide tube has the front 1/2" chipped off.

A few months ago, the store in Grass Valley CA had a nice Inland with late features that were correct for the serial number (except a flat bolt). It was pretty decent shape and had the serial number stamped in the stock like the rest of the Israeli Mash Az guns did. Wish I could have afforded it, but my CMP
Inland is such a good shooter, I really don't need another one as much as I need to buy a pick up truck!

If that front sight is a number 7, I've got a brand new "N" sight I would trade you for it - I need it worse than you do! - Bob

It's a 3. I put it on my IP. I have another of these sights I could sell for my cost, if you're interested. I won't be able to use a new looking one though. I could use a Winchester sight and a little difference.

It's a Sporting Goods store. I think it's a national chain, but evidently not in all states. Guns and ammo are usually pretty high in comparison, but they have deals sometimes on milsurps. Mainly they have camping items, cheap shoes, and lots of stuff for kid's sports. - Bob

I never asked the guy I know about the details, but they had a shipment of crates of rifles coming in from somewhere with more on the way and the gov halted the deal. Some were already in port and going through customs and more were on the way. One day I'll ask him what they were and what ultimately happened. But the gist was that the deal went backwards from there.
Big 5 has some low prices on sunglasses if you're in store.
