Yes, me (lots of range use but not combat use I hasten to add)............ Chalk and cheese. Not even in the same league. Don''t even mention them in the same breath

I don't think you like it then.
Do you think that the british army will ever adopt another 7.62 bolt action?

The L129 is OK for what it is and meant to do. A section marksmans rifle for taking on toe rags who out gun the .556 with their 7.62 x54r's. Will they ever adopt another 7.62mm bolt action. I say yes because while the big L115 is a good long range rifle, it ain't not a stalking rifle. And what snipers need is a rifle that they can stalk with. Just my opinion and heresay

There will always be a place for 7.62x51 in the UK
Army's arsenal as it has a proven track record for consistant accuracy as a round and stopping power at greater distances. The L129A1 is at section level, where the L115 was at a wider Platoon level and thus never where you needed it at the time.
The L129A1 provides a solid accurate base for those additional riflemen within a Battalion, other than the Sniper Platoon, with better than average groupings and showing an aptitude to provide accurate "deadly" fire at distance.

An LMT L129a1 clone:

No combat use with the thing, but it seems quite chunky for such a compact package. Otherwise it seems OK. I like the SAGE stocked M14
platform better overall, even if mounting optics is somewhat more challenging.

Is that yours JM? How does it differ from our L129? It seems to somehow from memory but I don't have the benefit of an L129 on my lap to compare. I wonder if anyone has asked LMT to make a gas-less, straight pull version to sell on the UK
market

It doesn't have the issue markings. Otherwise, it's just missing the sling mount up front and possibly needs another variant of the Trijicon RMR. (I think the issue version doesn't have an on-off switch, IIRC.)
Some of the early UK
test versions did not have the blackened stainless barrel, but that's how they come now.
I also wouldn't mind some of that green cloth tape that seems common to cover the upper holes in the barrel shroud. Probably to reduce mirage after the barrel heats.

Rather more compact, if heavier than the NDM86/Dragunov, which does the same job.

Sorrrrrry. I know that I'm a sensitive soul but every time you use block capitals Kimbo, I think that you're telling me/us off - like, for not knowing that they do market a straight pull version! Not being an avid gunmark or even a general gun book reader and all that.........
