Cool rifle. It likely WAS an SS rifle dating from the period just before the war. At the time, the SA and SS did not have access to the Wehrmacht supply system and converted any older pattern Mauser 98 they could acquire to the K98k
pattern.
I don;t think it's worth much the way it now looks, but I'd buy it for a good price if it were local and restore it just because it's got character.

I don;t think it's worth much the way it now looks, but I'd buy it for a good price if it were local and restore it just because it's got character.
Can you give me a ballpark idea of what "not much" is? I'm curious what folks who know these rifles may think its worth.... and of course I'll watch to see what it sells for.

As-is you won't get much for it. But in a proper walnut stock it will sell quickly for $900.00. Not sure, but guys do collect SS marked weapons. You must find a nice pre-war walnut stock. Good luck.

I let it pass.... It sold for $325 plus 17% buyers premium (internet bidder) and 6% sales tax. So roughly $400 out the door.
