DZ Marked MkIII
I recently committed to purchase a MkIII marked with 70 over 1914 DZ. I have not been able to translate the DZ mark. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

[QUOTE=green;431075]DZ part of serial number, in this case DZ
I know the DA rifles held some significance, I was wondering if the DZ rifles had any similar experience. The DZ indicates the series of 1,000 later in 1914. This rifle has no other markings, so was thinking that it might have been retained for some purpose. Would anyone know about this?

Hard to say without more information. What markings are on the barrel over the chamber?
Has the stock been sanded down? Rifles which were issued to units had those unit markings stamped in the butt. For whatever reasons, some subsequent owners saw fit to sand out those markings.
