No.4 Savage Mk1* Year
I recently purchased Savage made Lee Enfields in very nice shape and all three have the XXCXXXX serial number on the left butt socket. Below that, instead of the year, each one has the letter "B". The year does not appear anywhere else on the guns. Any input?

Later Savage rifles won't have a date stamp. If you'd post the first few digits of the serial numbers the dates could be supplied via the information in Stratton's book. I'm not sure if I've heard the definitive answer on the "B" mark.

Terry, If you give us the s/n info we can help. All we really need are the one or two digits to the left of the C.
Steve, The B stamp is the MoD acceptance mark...nobody has any info yet on whether it was applied by the N. American MoD inspectors or in England

I hadn't thought about checking Stratton, which I have a copy of. The numbers are 65CXXXX, 89CXXXX and 72CXXXX. I bought all three at auction intending to keep the best for my collection and selling the other two at the local gun shop. Thanks for the help,
Terry
