What is interesting reading back is the new forumers who come on, all enthusiastic and praisworthy, get what info they can and........... Then you never see or hear from them again! Where are you now Pompey Herman?

To be honest, I don't think we'll ever really decipher the Indian hybrid guns. But they do illustrate just how versatile the trusty old Bren and its design really was.

I am meeting a couple of the ex Lockies/ex RSAF apprentices who were project team boffins for the L4's next week. Interesting stuff about the Mk2/A3 and 5 guns apparently

As soon as I can get some time I will be starting to do the machining on the reciever/body. I will be using the pictures posted by Kevin as a guide. I will do the butt slide the same way by making it like the pictures. I have to track down a Mk3 butt or make one.
I only have a Mk2 butt slide so thats what I will be using.

That seems EXTREMELY good value for a Mk4 butt assembly.

what is the purpose of the lug

I might be wrong, but doesn't that lug prevent the 50 round drum attachment from pulling upwards? That whole rail - or what was once a whole rail - used to form part of the longitudinal and fancy fluted gas cylinder area. The front part of that top section (left side) of rail holds the carrying handle in the out position. The 'out' position isn't for firing the gun from the waist unless you want to pull your left arm out of the shoulder socket after a few steps. It's to control the gun in the AA role.

thanks Kev. I think I have all I need but as I advance along in the machining questions do arise.
today I finished all the milling operations to both sides of the front gas tube area forward of the barrel nut. I still have to do the bevels but that will be next weekend.
there looks to be several variations of the Mk3 with different measurements and different machining done.

so here is where I am at
