Underwood Carbine barrel band question
Hello all. I posted photos of a newly acquired Underwood in the Appraisals forum but wanted to do a few here also. Can anyone tell me what is going on with this thing?!? I'm not going to be loosening this screw.

It doesn't even look like a screw. Looks like someone had the issue with the screw loosening, as I did way back and decided a rivet was better. "There, now it'll stay put"...I'd drill it out and put the screw back unless it's completely buggered. From the pics though, this carbine needs a few things anyway.

Steelworker.. or ... Blacksmith ?
I've seen nuts and bolts,
Twisted / Braided wire.
But never seen one like this. Sorta looks like it was done a long time ago.
Like to see the whole carbine

Looks like this whole carbine's been together a long time. Looks like it was used for it's purpose...

Should be a fun project. I've seen worse wood so it is definitely salvageable.

first cleaning
Well, the wood seems to be coming along. I don't think I'll remove too much more. I'd rather it look clean than new.

Actually looks pretty good! Once you start treating it with the RLO, you should be pretty happy with it.
