i think it is a century arms fake, but not too sure. any help would be nice. the serial number for the scope seems wrong. but i am far from an expert.

i did notice the bolt number and receiver don't match..that was one of my worries.....thanks for looking at it though..

Vintage Hunter: I keep hearing about Century Arms replicas but I have yet to come across a post showing photos of one. Did they add bogus stampings to non-"T" rifles, refurb genuine "T"'s or what? I'm curious because I own a '45 No. 4T that was imported by Century that appears genuine with D6E stamp, beautiful pad installation, etc.

here is an article describing a century arms rebuild. it is saying they used hex bolts instead of the flat head screws for the scope mounts.

mrbungle: Haven't got around to photographing it yet but soon. Nothing strange about anything on it (ie. everything looks like normal H&H conversion) but it does look very, very fresh.

Nah, that's just regular old matte black paint. Unless it's impervious to about everything except chipping, that is! In which case it could be a fresh coat of Suncorite. But it looks more like spray bomb.

Brunofix has a sort of micro sharp edged crustiness look to it. Like 0.0003-0.0005" facets. It's not "flat" nor quite "crinkle". Will try to do a close up one of these days with the "new" camera.

my concern with your rifle ridolfo is the freash T and the TR on wrist. compared to the serial number stamps. pretty looking rifle though. thanks for posting pics. the one for sale looks alot like yours.

can you remove the bolt without flipping up the rear site? the one for sale the rear sight does not look filed so you can remove the bolt without flipping up the rear site. on the real deal they should. because you don't want to remove the scope and flip up the rear site before you could remove the bolt.

The markings on Ridolpho's rifle look fine to me but I agree with JM that it's been refinished at some point. St ill a nice looking rifle though.
mrbungle, your information concerning the rear sight mod is partially incorrect, not all T's have it. IIRC this was an unofficial modification done on the unit level by some but not all armourers, possibly at the request of the sniper. I have 2 unquestionably authentic No.4 T's, one doesn't have it and one does but I'm certain it was done by a former owner and not while in service by a professional armourer.

I've read about this mod., but in ~30 years have yet to see it in person!
