    Peddie target sight value?

    Morning Gents,

A pal back home in the UKicon came by a Peddie target sight for a Long Lee. (Made by Vickers)
He sent me it with some odds and ends at Christmas, only requesting I send him what I thought it was worth. (!) Cannot find a value for one of these. Can anyone help with value of such a sight? It has windage adjustment as well as fine range adjustment up to 1700 yards.
Marked Peddie, Mfd by VSM Pat 04/08.

    Any help most appreciated!

    Richard.

Any chance you could post some pics? It would be a help if I could see what it looks like, as I'm not familiar with Peddie sights.

I believe it's this one. Found a pic on an archived auction site. I saw one on ebay a year ago sell for around $250 (US dollars). So I guess that would be the top end of the market.

Its the old adage Richard "What a person is willing to pay" I like others have seen stuff on that site which should have sold for pennies but a bidding war starts of showing who's got the deepest wallet and the only one who benefits is the seller I have also like others seen expensive stuff go low ball there is also the supply & demand arena as well

Thanks for that and I agree Cinders.
So where should a bloke be with a sight like this?
The rifle has a new -to me barrel and I think it will shoot. The old barrel was Badly pitted end to end, and wouldn't seem to shoot better than about a 75 score at 100 yards.
(Bullet also fell the first few inches up the barrel from breech.) New barrel all shiny and tight.

I believe we need to use a host for posting pictures do we not? I don't have an account with any and usually post direct from computer. If this is possible I will try and add photos.
Rifle is a Canadianicon Long Lee by BSA , dated 1896. The fore-end is cut just in front of the mid band. The barrel I have now is a commercial BSA for a CLLE with a windage adjustable fore-sight and the hole through the ramp to afiix the sight protector.
Knox form is marked twice, "K&H" (Not H&K) Any ideas on this?....it came from NZicon.
I would use the rear sight off the original barrel, (sight base is present) but it requires a taller rear sight and likely had the windage adjustable CLLE sight which Is taller then the standard sight cap. With standard sight cap I need 500 yd. elevation to hit on at 100 yards. (Trying close to Mk V11 ammo, but understand Mk V1 was the ammo at the time)
Don't really Need a target sight, but would like to try the Peddie out.

Rifle has all the 'good bits" inc. volley sights front & back dust cover and cut-off. Needs the right mag though.

Also got a nosecap from NZ for if I decide to re-stretch the fore-end.

    Richard.

Due to "barrel harmonics" ,the vibration of the barrel when fired in a rifle sighted for MkVI ammo needs 600 yds elevation to hit POA at 100 yds when using MkVII ammo. Nothing to do with trajectory but depends on when the the bullet leaves the muzzle if the barrel is vibrating up or down. This discussed in "Textbook of Smallarms 1929" pg 53-7.

How do you use a tiny peep site mounted half way down the barrel? With great difficulty.
Seemed to be a fad at the time. As well as the Sutherland MkII sight the US M1905 sight had the same tiny aperture on the M1903 rifle.
