    Competitive Rifle Shooting

The Australianicon book "Competitive Rifle Shooting" by Janes Sweet is another of my "Keep until I Die" books. In growing up during the mid 50s to 60s, the Lee-Enfield was still the service rifle to beat on the Canadianicon ranges. This book is one of the best for information on shooting with the S.M.L.E., and in my youth, it served me well. It was set in the 1930-1950 era.

Competitive Rifle Shooting (Third Edition) 1954 by James Sweet
"The accepted text book on target shooting and bedding of target rifles.
A practical guide to success with the Service Rifle."

    Chapter titles are as follows:
    1. Causes of Failure
    2. Sights and Aiming
    3. Holding and Use of the Sling
    4. Trigger Release
    5. Grouping and Sight Adjustment
    6. Centering the Group
    7. Winds and Mirage
    8. Important Optical Factors
    9. Cartridge and Rifle Accuracy
    10. Latest Hints on Bedding Target Rifles
    11. Standard Rules and Regulations
    12. Bulls-eyes and Flying Saucers
    13. Prize Meetings
    14. Mental Approach for Success
    15. Miscellaneous Notes
    16. Conclusion and Summary
    17. Component Parts
    18. Index

This book deals with mainly the .303 Target Shooting in Australia, out to 1000 yards. It gives information that has been "lost" on the finer points of using the Lee Enfield on the range. If you can find a copy-Grab It.

    Thumbs up

Yes, it's an excellent piece of work and pretty easy to find.

The complete book in electronic PDF format was added to the Technical Articles for Milsurp Collectors and Re-loaders (click here) in March of 2007.

Are there any updates related to the re-printing of this book talked about in this link?
