Factory M2 cut with long channel

    OK,
Here's one I'm positive is a factory cut for the M2. It's a Winchester with the profile of a type III stock.
Has the long barrel channel and the extra recoil plate support cut.
So is this a late type III or a type IV?
I'm not sure of the difference between the 2. Is the type IV just a type III that has been modified with the M2 cut?

    TIA

I think that is the only difference between the two.

Pictures of a short channel type III Winchester that's had the M2 cut added,NO extra recoil plate support cut.

The only difference between the late type 3 stock and the type 4 is the cut in the type 4 for the M2 done at the factory. Yours looks like a type 4.

Would it be safe to say that the extra recoil plate support cut came into play at the time that Winchester and Inland made the long barrel channel type III stocks?

    TIA

Bruce, what about the devider just to the front of the magazine well? The type III has it as does the type IV, or so I thought???

Bill, The type 4 was a modified late type 3 stock. Just cut for the M2 parts. No support in front of the magazine well in the type 4 as it was removed for the M2 parts to fit properly. But it is there in the type 3. Was only used for a short period of time before they switched over to the type 5 pot belly stock.
