Vaguely Enfield related

Anyone have, or have information on, one of the the BSA .410 shotguns made around the early 1900's? I have one with an Enfield cocking piece and safety (it is the No.1 model) and it looks very L.E. in character. I'd love to get hold of the "De Luxe" model also.

Yup both .410 and 12G were built by BSA pre WW1 using the Lee bolt design.
These were built from scratch, not converted Lee Metford or SMLE rifles. A bit of a pain in the UK as quite a few were under 24" barrels so making them FAC and not shotgun cert.
Can't find much info on them but I think the .410 bolt actiion in The Book of the BSA Air Rifle is one.
Nice alternative to a bored out ex rifle.

The one on that website is EXACTLY what Im looking to get hold of with the Buttstock wrist safety. Absolutely beautiful.

The L-E bolt was no doubt used to cut costs as they were already making the components in large numbers.

I will be covering a bit about these in my Lee-Speed book. The sliding safety was used on Lee-Speed rifles. There is a bit of information on them in Knibbs' The Golden Century, although that book is very hard to find. Baker discusses them briefly in The British Shotgun, Vol. Three. They may have been discussed in some back issue of Double Gun Journal, though I'm not sure which at the moment.
