Lieutenant Reardon's "Red ***" Squadron MYIT. "44" Logo- NEED HELP IDENTIFYING

    Hey everyone,

Thank you in advance for any help or education you can provide me. I buy items in bulk and clean out estates. I found this logo/emblem and I can't quite put the pieces together.

I have no background for you on who owned it...sorry

It appears to be a logo that might have been glued or sealed on something.

    It reads:

Over This Bar Drinks Burma's Unholy Seven of Lt. Reardon's "Red ***" Squadron MYIT. "44". It measures 8" in diameter. The back looks to me like it was some map. I will attach a couple of pictures.

    Attachment 85340
    Attachment 85341

Again I appreciate any and all help.

    Kind Regards,
    Michael

MYIT. appears to refer to the Myitkyna air base - captured from and turned against the Japaneseicon: Myitkyina Airport - Wikipedia

"44" appears to be the date.

all of the USAAF "44" units were ETO or South Pacific.

    Thanks for your help

Thanks for your help! I am just trying to piece together where this would have been or what it was glued too.

    I appreciate all the knowledge.

My guess would be, it is a simple non intrusive sign, at that size, for those guys to show other flyers that it was their special area when not in combat, showing Esprit de Corps IMHO

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say it is in reference to the 427th night fighter squadron that had a detatchment of 3 P61 black widows at Myitkina in late 1944.
