Making a SLED

"once upon a time" the old CSP forum had a link to instructions for making a SLED. Fulton armory shows the 2-round modification but not a SLED.
Does anyone have a copy of instructions for SLED making?

I think I have a drawing somewhere in my computer. I have made a dozen or so over the years for the club. I'll try to find the drawing and instructions. You'll need a dremel tool with the metal cutting disk, a rotary file and a small torch to remove the temper from the sled leg which holds the sled in the action.

thanks ACK. i passed it over to the guys on the CMP forum. it's instructions for the SLED version i have always made. i'll stash it on my hard drive for future reference

Sorry, I don't have "how too" for a sled, but I did pick up a pair at Orion 7.

One day while waiting for juniors to show up, on junior day, I borrowed a SLED from one of the club members. I used it as a model, and with a pencil, for marking, and my Swiss Army Knife, it took me about 2 1/2 hours to make a working SLED. No vise or other fancy tools, not even pliers, except for those on the Swiss Army Knife. I have used the SLED for almost 18 years, and it works as well still as any other I have seen.

By the way, no juniors showed up. After a few years of recruiting juniors (4H, boy Scouts, . . ., a typical junior day has about 30 to 40 juniors show up.

Of course the SLED started out as an M1 Garand en-bloc clip. Sorry to have destroyed a bit of history, but I had a couple of hundred of them and it seemed right at the time.

It is removable with the tip of your finger (doesn't require screwdriver).

although I don't know if it is legal for the Garand Matches, is to modify the Operating Rod Catch. If you cut the arm that engages the clip release at the appropriate point, the clip will stay in the rifle after the last round and also if you insert it empty. You release the clip by pressing the clip latch just like a M-14/M1A. Since the clip stays in, you just load a round in the clip and release the bolt. It stays open after firing, then load the next round.
