Cross Bolt In Wrist 91/30 Is This ???

I have seen some pic's of 91/30 rifles with what appears to be a cross bolt going through wrist. Is this a repair or a variant???

    THANKS!

Depends. the crossbolt was fitted to a number of older M91/30's at refurb to either prevent or arrest development of a crack at the tang. The majority of laminate stocks also have the crossbolt. All post-war stocks have it as wartime service showed that delamination could occur at the tang at a higher rate of instance than with hardwood stock splits. many wartime laminate stocks (mostly made of beech) were retrofitted with the crossbolt at refurb.

If you see a laminate stock without the crossbolt, chances are it is a wartime stock that didn't get a crossbolt at refurbishment.
