    No4Mk1*question

I have just aquired a No4Mk1* savage and was wondering where I can find out some more info. The serial#is 82C2356 It has a sporter stock but the barrel is intact. What I want to know is the date of manufacture and I was looking at the action and I noticed a hole in the action right about where the bolt is in the closed position. Is that hole supposed to be there? The rifle looks in excellant shape other than the sporter stock, does anyone know where I can find photos of what it supposed to look like? any help would be great.

Check out this link for info. The hole is for gas venting in case of a ruptured case or primer.
