Need advice on first 1911 purchase

Since looking over my friends 1911A1, I'm in the hunt for one of my own. Where do I look for a WWII era (doesn't have to be perfect or all correct) 1911 /1911A1. A worn finish parts 50 to 60 % you know a shooter. But not ugly just not to expensive for my first. I thought gun show in 2 wks or start looking in the pawn shops or even the gun shops. Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

Of course those places but why not just place a WTB ad on this forum. State what you want and the details and I'll bet you work it out. Just don't tell the max amount of money you want to pay or magically everything will cost exactly that much.
    Regards, Jim

wulf, good question. I would be happy with this one but I don't know if he is even considering selling it. I know it is what I would be looking for, good cond. but mixed up to keep the price down. what should a pistol in this cond. go for? I know it is a shooter.

SOG usually has a couple in their flyer on the Collector Pages.

And of course I can't lay my hands on their latest catalog right now but it online. Just search for Southern Ohio Guns and you will find it. It seems to me I saw two in the Collector pages but I can't remember the prices.

I just checked the online catalog and found this: http://www.southernohiogun.com/skin/...g_issue227.pdf

On the previous page they have a serious 70 Commander. Hope this helps. Bill.

If we knew where they'd be...they wouldn't be there.

Seriously, networking with the right people is, IMO, the best way to bring good results. For a first purchase, I would not recommend an Internet auction or such. Get a little help from somebody and purchase outright, knowing what you are getting.

Go to AuctionArms and take a look at Jack The Dogs offerings. He usually has 1911 or 1911A1 pistols up for auction on a regular basis. He is as trustworthy as they come and what he says, you can believe. If you ever had a problem, he would make it right too. Here is a nice RIA rebuild that he has for sale now.
