Have a match want to go to, any problems to know about pulling the m80 ball and replacing with 150gr SMK??

    Thanks.

    JJ:

Not a thing wrong with this, go for it. I have done it with both 3006, and 7.62.

If you want to get a little more complicated, weight enough charges to get an average powder weight, then drop your charge weigh just a tiny bit (this is simply to avoid the Twilight Zone, whereby you won't have enough powder for the last round), rethrow the powder, seat the SMK, and go shootin'.

I don't know what the 147 FMJs are like in WWB, but I DO know the older bulk 55 grain FMJ bullets Winchester sold for M1993 loads in 223 were the least consistent bullets I have ever seen.

The only problem I can think of is if the rules for the shoot require you use military ammo. Mexican match would violate the rules.

With all the futzing around this is going to entail; why don't you just load yourself some decent ammo? That's a LOT of time and effort to make a pretty mediocre load....remember, in "real" Mexican Match, they were breaking down M118 and adding the 168 SMK....M118 was at least sort-of match ammo going in, and replacing the lousy M72 ball did a LOT to make it better! M80 ball with a "better ball" isn't going to be all that much better a load!
