    I sure would like to know what the serial numbers are on those rifles! The guy in the foreground is holding a mid to late '41 with a grooved hand guard clip and an arched lower band. That is like my August of '41 S/A.

    Mine too, but mine's a LL return so it won't be in that pic. I just like the early kit. Secoind man in from this end, front rank appears to have the other style of scabbard on his belt. Like the 1917 blade used.

    When I got into the Garandicon thing, one of the first pieces of advice I got was, "NEVER, EVER, EVER, handle the rifle by the upper hand guard."

    Pics like the above remind me that the rifles' previous owners didn't, ummm... follow this dictum very stringently.

    That is true for match conditioned M1icon's where the front handguard is unitized to the middle band. Standard configured Garands were intended to be used as pictured.
