Need some help - Remington 1903 failure to feed last round??

    Hi all,

I am having a problem w/ my 1903. It is a Remington manufacture. The problem is that on the last round the bolt fails to feed and push the round into the chamber. On every other round in a 5 round clip it feeds fine. I have to push the mag follower down to un-jam the round and then push it into the chamber to load that last round.

Does anybody know what might be causing this? This rack grade 1903 is giving some of my m1 match rifles a run for their money in the accuracy dept, and I want to shoot it in a match but cant figure out what the deal is with the follower etc.

    Thanks for the help.

Hard to say. I would start by making sure the follower and follower spring are correct and not for a M1917 or something. Make sure the trigger guard is screwed up tight.

The top of the magazine portion of the trigger guard must fit completely in the bottom of the receiver. Otherwise the follower can hang up, which seems to be what you are experiencing. When I assemble the trigger guard through the stock into the receiver, I always remove the bolt. This makes it easier to see if the fit is correct. Try fitting the trigger guard to the receiver without the stock. Not how it looks from the top. Then, assemble it with the stock, and look at the fit from the top. It should be the same. a key point is how the rear of the trigger guard fits in the rear of the receiver opening. The height of that rear tang must be in the same position in the receiver as when the stock is not used.

Remember, if the magazine does not fit correctly into the receiver bottom, the follower may/probably not align correctly causing it to be lower than it should and therefore the last round will also be lower and will not be picked up by the bolt..
