    Need Help Identifying A Stock

I was doing the initial cleaning on what I thought was an Inland stock and found a cartouche I'm not sure about. On the right side I thought it had a typicle CC, but after cleaning I found a CC in a box pointing to the grip. Very faint but that's what it is. Can't see any letters in the box. In the slingwell is a flaming bomb and a HI. Any help on this is appriciated. Thanks.....Frank

Is it an "I" cut high wood? Looks like an Inland to me. What looks like a box may just be marks that are unrelated.

Looks like whatever it was, it was applied over the top of the ordnance acceptance wheel.... makes me think it is a faded FAT stamp maybe????

Hi Bill, oval cut high wood. Definately a box, and not an unrelated mark.
Hi T.R. definately not a FAT. Would have only been in Italyicon with the 5th. Army.
Cross Cannons square in the right side of the box pointing to the grip. Didn't the Inlands have the CC mostly pointing up, with some upside down? Maybe we can get Painter to help with this over the weekend.....Frank

As has been mentioned here Frank, the crossed cannons have been observed in all directions. When I said unrelated I simply mean that the box may have been applied after the fact. It still looks like an Inland to me.

Hi Bill, thats what I will consider it is, an "Inland". I can use it on a six digit Inland.
Working on my IBM restoration project today, and getting closer to having it done. Put the type one band and sight on the barrel. Blued some small parts. I'll park the receiver next week, then put it together. Only parts I need are a mag catch and oiler, still looking.
Hope all is well, have a good one.....Frank

    Frank,
Curious if that 'box' might be the impression left from a carbine mag being tapped on the stock.
    Just a wild guess.

    Cheers,
    Charlie

Another idea, use tracing paper and a charcoal pencil to rub the stamp area and see if any additional details show up on the paper.

Charlie, the mag lined up like a glove. That must be it, some G.I. tap a mag on the stock. Probably didn't think about the CC. Hey couldn't blame him, he might have been in a hurry.....Frank

Charlie, I'll put a mag on and see if the lines match up. Could be.
T.R., I'll give the paper and pencil a try. You never know.

It's a nice stock either way, have a good one.....Frank
