1st model M48bo

This was my first milsurp in collecting though I have had a few other pass through my hands in years past. Why drag this out now? I didn't have a digital camera when I got this and I never had made any good photos of it and posted them. So here I am with it at long last.

But this one was what gave me the milsurp collecting bug. Its also- brace yourselves, a Mitchell's. I had my wife get it for me for our 13th wedding anniversary. Well guess what. It ain't a German rifle. It ain't even a 98/48 like Mitchell's said it was. I was some disappointed it didn't have a crest on it. But, I think maybe now at long last, it just may be, worth the $299 (plus tax) that we paid for it. But that was when you could get unissued M48s with accessories for $79 all over the place. See what happens when you buy first, research second? Well at least in those days they threw in the accessories. Also, I'm fortunate in that this is an unaltered, not sanded or Mitchell refinished Yugo issue M48. It has started me down a very interesting road that continues to unroll before me and has introduced me to a heck of a lot of great people so I can honestly say it was worth every penny. Also it goes to show there's nothing unlucky about "13" and the wife & I celebrated our 21st anniversary this past year!

So here's the long past due pics. As noted, this is a first model M48. It would have been manufactured between 1950-52 and at some point likely scrubbed and refinished as the "bo." "V" prefix to the serial #.

Very clean looking Mauser, Jim. So this was the original start of your military rifle infection( mine was a 1938 42 code K98k). They do look much better with markings though actually BO is an acronym for without markings in Serbo-Croat. Prices are climbing on all of them recently.

I just picked up a early V prefix BO off GB, expect delivery in two days

GB photo's show the milled floor plate and TG, the floor plate is not matched but very close.






I wonder if this rifle came from Mitchel's?
