    need help

    i need help i've got a chance to buy a springfield service air rifle but everthing i read says they don't exist out side of the springfield aromory museum is there any way this could be real and if so how do i know?

    Parts were available. Repros were fairly easy to build. The middle band was unique.

    Springfield Air Service rifles exist outside the Springfield Armory museum. But, they are extremely rare. Real ones exist in a fairly tight serial range in the S/N 800000 range. They were made in a single batch on a single order.

    I recommend that your purchase a copy of Brophy's book and read carefully. That's a very small investment compared to the one you're about to make.

    If I remember correctly, according to Pershing's cablegrams, some Springfields were cut down in Franceicon for Air Service. I don't recall if a quantity was mentioned.
