    Krag load?

What was the original load for the krag? I have 150 gr bullets loaded to 2000fps. I will use them at the match this weekend to empty the brass so I can load the mil-spec load. Will report on my performance with the old girl.

    pdh,

the original Kragicon load was a 220gr FMJ round nose at about 2,000 fps. Which is pretty close to what I use elk hunting, except soft point. I like H 414 for heav bullets in the Krag, 4895 is OK too. The target shooters are getting pretty good results with cast bullets at lower MV numbers. Partly 'cause a lot of Krag bores are oversize. My own feeling is, there's no reason to use a heavy-duty load unless it's for hunting, as the Krags seem to perform quite well with lighter loads.

    Good luck!

For a hunting load, I've had fair accuracy (3.5-4 MOA) with both the 180 gr RN and 220 gr RN using IMR 4350. Work up carefully and don't exceed the max as the Kragicon is definitely not a rifle you want to hot rod. For shots inside 100 yds on hogs and such, this load is fine.

As Jon stated above, my go-to target load - and what I do 90% of my shooting with - is 19.0 gr of SR-4759 under a Lee C312-180 bullet cast from wheel weights and sized .312. The bore on my Krag is over-sized, so I get the best accuracy out of this cast load (1.5 MOA).

I had little luck with .308 bullets, but then tried some pulled Sovieticon heavy ball bullets (yellow tip) at .311. I went from 6+inch groups to about 2"-3". All loads were with 4895.

I'll bet the bore on your rifle is over-sized like mine. The bore on my rifle slugs at .312.
