    Help with M1 Carbine

Can anyone help identify this M1icon Carbine I was given by my Brother-in-Law?
Marked: M1 Carbine, Cal. .30 M1 (on top of barrel breech.)
Marked: 4828 (on receiver in front of rear sight, probably SN.)
Marked: Universal, Hialeah, Fl. (on receiver in back of rear sight.)

These are the only visible markings?

It is a Universal carbine. It is not USGI it is a commercial made carbine. They did use some USGI parts. Value is somewhere between $350.00 and $450.00. They are not really that great nor are they that desirable. They do however make a good little plinker.

To add to Bill's identification, that is considered a "1st generation" carbine from Universal. It used alot of USGI parts and has alot on interchangeability for spares. It is generally the "more desireable" of the three different generations of Universals. You may want to check out Jim Mock's site. I understand he is collecting info on the early Universals.

Mock's Universal page is at Universal Firearms Corp.

While on that site go down thru the additional informational links on the left side of the screen.
