    Garand Bayonet ID Help!!

I'm looking to get a corrct bayonet for a Garandicon. I am looking at one with markings I would like to know if anyone knows what they are. It has EN 5 over E "flaming Bomb symbol" then US. I want to know if this original or fake. I thought the "US" straddled the bomb? EN? is that a re-work factory? The scabbard also has E-US inside flaming bomb on the throat. Any help would be appreciated.

These were discussed a short while back.

I'm almost certain we discussed these, but I can't find the thread.

I think it was decided they were post WW2 non US made, but I don't remember anymore.

These were recently brought in by CMPicon from Greece. There is much speculation as to where these were manufactured and what the markings stand for. The scabbards on some of them have markings identical to those on the Taiwanese Garandicon bayonets.

Many believe these were made for our European Allies w/US Tooling post WWII. I have one with a matching E-US scabbard. I belive this is the correct configuration for the Military Assistance Program (MAP). Now, the US M-7 scabbard is a different story. These were probably not supplied under a US Military Aid Program but were purchased directly by the Greeks from the maker. The scabbard is marked on the throat US M7, and the body is marked on the front and back just under the throat with Chinese characters. This marking is the same as is found on scabbards made in Taiwan for the Nationalist Army and it is quite possible that these scabbards were supplied on contract to the Greeks by the company that made them for the Nationalist Chinese.

Wish I could take credit for this explanation, but credit belongs to Gary Cunningham - Bayonetman Author - American Military Bayonets of the 20th Century
