Looks like a canvas sling on his M1. When did the canvas slings start showing up on the battle field?

I doubt if that prisoner saw another day, after being caught with GI clothes on...... The story of Malmandy spread very quickly, and there was pay back...

Ledge, It was my impression the canvas slings started in '44. I have two with the narrow slider and marked '44.

Tom, I think you are correct. The word came down that German soldiers caught in US clothing were to be shot.
