Question New member with an extractor question

    Hello,
I attached a picture of the extractor and frame from a used 1911A1 that I purchased. Not sure about the blob of metal on the end of both. Should it look like that? When assembled the rear end of the extractor wiggles like a fish.

Well , that's the ejector , not the extractor. I've never seen one's like that , but I only know GIs and some late Colt commercials. What make is yours ?

Ejector, right! (what was thinking). It's on a full size Springfield mil-spec. This is my first 1911A1 so I'm not sure what I should be seeing on the bottom of the ejector, but the blob on both the ejector and the frame doesn't look right.

I looked through Sweeny's books and others but I have not found a good picture of the bottom of an ejector for comparison.

Should I move this to another thread?

Your rear ejector pin is broken. (It's a little smaller than the front one and as you mentioned, about it's only function is to keep the ejector from "wiggl(ing) like a fish." New ejector time. Getting the pin out of the frame may be a bother or it may just fall out.

    New Ejector time

Thanks, that makes sense. I have the new ejector ordered and I'll find a way to clear the hole.

    Bill

p.s. also ordered tools to adjust and measure extractor tension.
