Hey Badger and my fellow collector, attached are a couple of pics of some sort of award? My great grand father received. He served his royal Majesty in the India theater as well as the Boar wars, I hope this helps SDH:

Not to sound like a smarty pants, but that would have been HER Royal Majesty, Queen Victoria. She expired just before the debut of the SMLE.

I haven't forgot this post, but I'm not having much luck finding this pin in my standard military medals research material. I think it might be a custom civilian award and not something military, as it's labeled "Special Service". I'm trying to find out from some of my friends who are still in the collecting field. I'll get back to you as soon as I get answer ...
