M1A1 Paratrooper

I was talking to a friend of mine today and as usuall the conversation turned to guns. He told me he had an M1 carbine with a folding stock and my ears perked up like a coyote. I asked him if he would go and get it so I could check it out and he did. When I saw it I was impressed although I know nothing about the M1 carbine because I don't have one in my collection. It seems to be unaltered and in very nice shape, but I hope to find that out with this thread. The bore is also like new, Of course I tried to buy it(it's my duty)but he declined so I settled for taking some photos of it. Any information from you M1 fellas would be appreciated. Here it is.

Mine is in a lowwood though but still has the cannons on the bottom of the grip

Maybe it is a family hand me down and that's why he wants to keep it. If not keep trying to buy it, or see what his shooting interest are. maybe he would swap for something.

He said he bought it about 20 years ago from a friend of his but he wants to keep it for his kids, which sounds nice but his oldest son is in prison for meth and his two younger sons are not on a path that you would call straight and narrow. I don't think any of his sons will be able to own firearms before it's all over. Is this rifle anywhere close to being original or does it have replacement parts like most WWII rifles?

I'm sure there are a lot of guns in the hands of people who legally can't own them.
