New member, considering a Garand purchase. Advice welcomed.

New from Spring TX, just north of Houston. Glad to be here and from what I've seen so far it is a wealth of knowledge.

I am in the market for an M1icon Garand that is still a shooter. My local gun shop has an employee whose father will be sending his SA Garand over here from Longview TX for me to consider. I know there is no way to make an expert of me so soon. Are there any members in the Houston area capable of viewing the rifle when it comes in for advice? Willing to pay for their time. If not I will take any keys to look for from the members here. Again it is nice to be on the boards with you military weapons lovers.

    Randy

Wealth of knowledge there. If nothing else, you can find what to pay. CMPicon stands behind their rifles, not sure about your "gunshop's employee's father."

You're right there's soooo much to this question. If you just want a shooter and the specifics of collecting don't matter, then it's as easy as examining a civilian rifle for shooting. If you want a collector...that's going to be hard. Like Daveboy says, check CMPicon for prices and then you don't get fleeced. Too, as he says, they will give you what you ask for and charge accordingly.
    Regards, Jim
