03-A3 stock

I just got an Remington 03-A3. On my first one the stock has two crossbolts under the reciever. On the new one it has two brass pins not crossbolts. Both stocks are military. Is this normal? Thanks, Detroit-1

Remington '03s had the crossbolt. When they were ending the '03 and going into the 'A3 , they tried the pins ( around nov/dec ) . This lasted until around Apr/ June or so , then they went back to crossbolts. Point is , 03 stock , bolts early , pins late .....A3 stock , pins early , bolts late.

Yes, it's normal. For a time they used pins but found they weren't as strong (especially when used for launching grenades) and went back to using bolts.

Check the stock with pins carefully - Smith Corona made most using pins and yours might be a SC stock.

Thanks guys. The gun is a Jan. 43. Someone lightly sanded the stock so the marking are very hard to see. How would I tell if it is a SC stock? Thanks, Detroit-1

A SC A3 stock will have "FJA" and the crossed-cannons cartouche, no "RA". Early Rem A3's were the same, so you have to go a step further.

In front of the trigger guard, SC inspector stamps will be a circle, square, triangle, and diamond.

If you cannot see any stamps, look at the cut-out for the lower band spring. SC stocks will be rounded on the far right side. Rems are straight.
