Hello,

I am pretty new to garands but not to guns at all. I always take apart and competly clean anything new that I buy, not only to make sure its clean but also because I like to know how things work. That being said i also know my limits. I generally do not take apart trigger groups or other complex parts, though I have in the past. I recently took apart my new garand and now have it all re assembeled and in working order. The only problem is that in the container I put all of parts in, there is a small pin in the bottom. I do not recall taking it out of anything, though I may have. Any of you experts happen to know just by looking? Its about a half inch long and shows some wear near the center witch makes me think something pivits on it. I would rather not take it to the range until this issue is resolved,

Mine falls out if I'm not paying attention too. The round ones don't stay in like the later ones.

Yours is WAY earier than mine. That's a gas trap, right? Had to actually LOOK at the band...mine's a 300,000.

Jim, It is the first type of Winchester (1941) lower band, very difficult to find.

OK now I got it. Had to check the book. Springfield changed in the fall of 1940 and Winchester changed about a year later. Mine is the next version of Springfield in 8-41, the arched band. Does this one have a number inside? How low IS the number? Under 130,000 I'll bet! Nice. Got pics? You could do a thread on that one alone!

Photo shows a four digit Winchester (the serial also starts with 100,000 so 102740 would be 2740). Still with the original WRA barrel, the WRA bolt still had the blued WRA firing pin too.
It did require some restoration to complete, also have another in the four digit range. Really
wanted a three digit and tried to bid on the CMP auction for 100569 but someone ran it up to $4800 (receiver only) during the last ten minutes - hope he had the parts - I did.

Collectors are still not certain as to how long the keystone springs were used by Winchester ?
The milled lower band with the groove did not last too long either

I can only afford two. I wish I had more. I know, all you have to do is buy them. Nothing to it! I had to settle for a pair of SA rifles, one of which is a shooter. The other's an LL. At least it's a nice one.

Thanks guys. The pin in question is in fact the one from the lower band. By the way I think I did take it out? Maybe? I dont know at this point as its been a while back.
