    Note the foregrip on the M1A1icon TSMG has the field upgrade reinforcing band. Later Thompson production changed the foregrip mount to a cheaper design which was not as durable as the original mount. The steel reinforcing band was very much like the later M1 carbine band onlt this band kept the mount from bending or breaking
