Can you help me ID this "Carbine"

I've been here for a while, always looking and enjoying the information with nothing to contribute.

    I'm asking for help.

It's a long story, but the short version is that I have a Kragicon Carbine that was given to me to keep and pass on to my sons. It's not for sale, nor will it be. As I said it was a gift.

But I want to ID it to know what we have. What am I looking for? What features do you need photos of to be able to ID it?

I'm on my way home shortly and will get photos and post ser# info and such. Just tell me what to look for.
Going from memory, it is a 1898, Springfield. The cartouches are hard to read and the finish is worn, and the butt stock was cut and repaired.

I'm hoping to have a head start on what to look for when I get home.

    Thanks
    Mr Fixit

yup its a 1898 krag manufactured in 1900. looks like the original cartouche marks, its a shame someone cut up the stock.

agreed - made as a rifle and changed to a deer rifle/carbine , missing upper handguard , but a family heirloom is a keepsake ,
