    VERY, VERY cool! Thanks Emri, I hadn't seen it. I think Duxford is one of the best shows anywhere as far as seeing rare warbirds. It seems most of the rarest U.S. aircraft are being bought and moved to Europe.

    UKicon airshows are MUCH better than the US as far as warbirds are concerned. Particularly Duxford. Even on non airshow days, sometimes a pilot or two will "beat up" the field like nothing you are apt to see in the states. It's closer to an unscripted Reno solo time trial or something.

    If Steven Grey's mob is still about, then there will be something interesting to see outside the museum, if you are into restorations. "The Fighter Collection" it's called? Was there doing some P40 Tomahawk work in the late '90's.

    I think the old aircraft had way more character then even the B1's of today.

    Not your fault, I think. FAA regulations and insurance are likely culprits.

    Plus, cross country flights for "interesting specimens" are far shorter.

    OR it could be that the airfield itself is just exuding a combat history all it's own, and it's contageous. Even random taxi drivers in the surrounding villages know what a "Tomahawk" or a "Thunderbolt" are. Old ladies on the train can tell you things about the Blitz from their own personal perspective. Londoners may have forgotten the War, but the country folk have reminders all over still. It's just gotta rub off on the pilots.

    AND y'all aren't Confederates any more...PC weenies.

    Insurance will probably be the death nail for the CAF - Most all of us say CAF too, and not commemorative - We had a vote to change the name because FINA said they would pull their large sponsorship if we kept the name Confederate. Actually we LOST a ton of sponsors and support from the public because the name changed. Remember that was in 1999 when PC was at it's peak.

    I'll never believe the name change won in the vote either - They claimed it won by 75% - NOBODY I know in the local outfit here wanted the name changed.

    PS - Below is the new Wing patch I came up with in defiance. The old wing patch had Confederate Air Force written around the edge, but I couldn't make myself write it on the new patch. Since nobody knew how to operate a computer I told the guys I'd do it and everyone liked the new shoulder patch so that's what we're still using today.
