    Generic 98-family muzzle cover

This kind of muzzle cover was used for all kinds of 98-family rifles. Gew.98s, Brazileans, Argentines etc. Maybe there is a forum member who collects these items and can enlighten us. However, it was a 19th. century kind of gadget that must have been well out of fashion by WWII. There are K98icon versions, but they are simpler, not having the flip-up lid at the front. And they are being reproduced as well. But with the Mauser passion for marking just about everything, I would expect it to have at least an inspection marking on it somewhere. So unless you can find some genuine markings, view it as a modern repro.

    Thumbs up

Definately a K98kicon muzzle/sight protector and I believe original from the photos! These were discontinued with the coming of the sight hood in 1941. Most were marked, normaly with a WaA, but some - probably later productution - were unmarked.
