I do notice that the tip of the bottom hook on the early rod is flat while the latter is rounded. Is this something that is common to both Winchester and SA, early Follower Rods, made for use with compensating spring ????

Yes, the hash marks on the SA are all the same width. The Winchester has an extra wide last hash mark. ???
