Post WW2 rebuild stamp

The post war SA SPG rebuild stamp is not very common, often stamped to the left side
of any existing cartouche. There are a few M1 carbines with this rebuild stamp too.

According to Billy Pyle, Gibbs was called out of retirement -- I wonder if he brought his old stamps with him or SA made new ones? I have one like yours with a very deep stamp, much deeper than the Gas Trap era cartouches.

That was Gibbs new stamp with the fat letters. The Early SPG was the skinny lettered stamp and was used for s short period of time. I can see this stamp on any rebuilt Garand even the earlier SPG stocks if it came back in for a butt plate change or others. I have a WRA/WB here with a GAW on it. They shortened the channel but left the WRA op rod angle which is neat as I always thought they would go over the whole area removing the angle. If someone else looked at it they may think this was an original short channel but its isn't.

I have seen 2 rebuilt SPG period stocks with this fat letter markings and all original SPGs from the early period have all been skinny lettered. I have seen a few of the forgeries and one is a skinny & fat letter mix while two others are off with the "S" and the "P" Now if a unmolested early SPG came through with a fat letter SPG I would have to then consider the use of the fat letters SPG stamp early on. One other note all skinny SPG's show up on the same period for the 1903's. The fat lettered SPG shows up only on the later period 1903's during the later 40's rebuild period. I have handle allot of 1903's for a repair contract for comparison. Rick B

I also noticed Roberts P is stout compared to the one on the 1903's. They clearly had two stamps in the fat letters with the P being the only major difference. Bob which one did you have on your stock? Rick B

This Winchester stock has the SA GAW rebuild stamp from WW2, this is like the Winchester stock Rick B. was talking about in the above post.

Here is a rifle that I am watching on an auction right now. The picture is not very clear but it is an SA SPG cartouche.

The WB has both markings and bot h wheels on it. I just want to water mark it before I put it up and someone like Findley steals it. I have never seen on e this nice and if I write a book I want this one for it. Rick B

Here's my late SPG
