Hakim 8mm Mauser came with modifications

The Hakim came into my collection of misfit toys having been modified for a scope mount. What a fun gun though!

Ok, here's a question, no import marks on either rifle, on the Hakim, it came with the scope mount on it when I bought it back in 1982ish. I was there at the gun shop when it arrive with 25 other Hakims in a crate. This was the only one with a scope mount. Did they make one as a DM rifle?

Can you post pics of the mount and any other mods made to accommodate the optic?

    Mt Biker,

the Ljungman-Hakim-Rashid design makes for a **very** accurate rifle. A poor man's M1Aicon, if you will. If your rifle rolled in with a batch of milsurps, it probably was in the condition it left service. Just a guess, but if true, I bet you could find some documentation to back it up.

After shooting the Ljungman, my own thought was to move up to the Hakim - a stronger round, plus you can throttle down the gas port to accomodate various loadings. I would have set one up just like what you have - and I bet that's what the Egyptian military did. As a TAC weapon it would have beaten an Enfield sniper rifle hands down.

Ok, here is a pic of the mount, it does have some sort of Arabic script on it. I think when new it was probably a more dark olive drab color but has mostly faded over time. What is an Echo, is that a brand name? Also the holes in the hand guard were and oddity but I have seen other Hakims with these holes but not many. The gun is a Caddilac and has by the best military tigger of any service rifle I have ever fired bar none. I have only shot 20 rounds through this gun since new to me. 1. I think surplus corroisive ammo would be had on the gas system and 2, I don't want to carry the thing hunting. It is heavy! How those Egyptians carried these through the desert to fight Israel is beyond me.

Black tape on scope is for brass protection, this thing slings brass with a ton of force. The other reason I don't shoot it is that it eats brass almost beyound use. If you can find them within a 100 foot radius you're lucky.

Echo was the mount manufacturer. Made in Idaho USAicon. I have one on my Egyptian SAFN sniper using a CZECH Scope. They were used on the Belgian Sniper with a different scope. They did world sourcing back then.. Nothing is new. Gary

I am thinking about selling this one as you see it here. If there is any interest in trades or out right buy just PM me! Thinking $ 550 with the scope.

Traded it off today for a 1944 BSA Shirley No.4 Mk1T! I think I made one hell of a trade and the Enfield will be much easier on brass.
