possible dumb question, no.4 vs. no.5 micro sights

I understand that the no.5 is graded up to 800 and the No.4 is graded up to 1300 but is the no.5 micrometer sight's 800 and below equal to the no.4's 800 and blow graduations? I am assuming they actually re-calibrated the no.5 sight to the ballistics of the no.5?

I am asking because i can get a no.5 micrometer locally cheap but its going on a no.4, will I have sight issues?

The correct 1300 yd No.4 rear sight you require is readily available from either SARCO or Springfield Sporters for quite nominal prices.

Yes, you will have sight issues if you fit an 800 yd sight to a No 4 rifle.

But, then again, you would have sight issues anyway even with a 1300yd sight unless the ammo you are using matches the ballistics of the original Mk 7 ball cartridge.

I quite like the 800yd sight because it has a finer adjustments per "click" than the 1300yd one does. It is really a matter of methodically spending range time with your chosen ammo and seeing where it shoots to the particular sight you have fitted to your rifle.

I have worked this out by measuring that 1 click on a 1300yd sight moves the sight leaf .008", while an 800yd sight moves .00425" per click. Graduations are the same at 800yds

..800yd sight 800, 700-1 click, 500 + 6, 400 + 4, 200 + 6, 200 -2, 200 -8

The main downside to this conversion is that most folk won't be able to zero at 800 yds. So now to do the matching zeros at 200 and up scale! (Not me, BTW, as I don't have this drama, but...) And---just out of curiosity, just how many clicks below 200 will the sight(s) go before bottoming out? If there was one at hand I'd try it myself, but they're 50-60km away right now. Not all that many clicks, is it?

10 clicks below 200.

The movement-per-click on a 800yd sight is only about half that of a 1300yd one.

Why do you need to zero at 800 yards?
Why not just zero at a shorter range using the No 5 sight, record the settings, then if you ever fit a No 4 sight you can dial it in pretty easily.

Put simply, in my limited experience of shooting and accuracy testing these rifles together, then using a No5 sight on a No4 and vice verca, you'll be miles out. And that is using the correct Mk7 ball ammo. I can't speak for what'll happen if you use commercial .303 ammo

Surely, it'd be easier and simplere to just fit the correct sight for the rifle.......... yes? If you're short of a No4 Mk1 type backsight leaf, just tell me and I'll send you one. Or am I missing something?
