Nothing in my version of SRS. Of course, there were some that were not listed.

Those NM rifles which were returned for military service or bought by members of the military were not listed. Lt1, if you can pass along some further information or (better yet) some pictures, that would help. Some characteristics of a NM rifle (and keep in mind these can be faked):

    1) A Star Gauge "asterisk" on the 6 o'clock part of the muzzle crown AND a Star Gauge registration number on the top of th barrel about 1/3 of the way from the receiver end.

    2) The rifle's serial number etched on the bolt (this can be faked)

    3) The rifle's serial number on the bottom of the stock near the lower butt swivel.

    4) The follower "rib", bolt and left "raceway" (left side of the chamber) are polished.

The rifle is on Broker . Here is a link 1903 Springfiel National Match? Star Gauged Barrel : Bolt Action Rifles at GunBroker.com

I think it is a parts gun . The barrel ordanance bomb is not punched indicating a replacement barrel ,Should be 1933 USMC front sight .A nice collection of parts IMO but not a NM as the owner claims .

Perhaps re-barreled after the 1938 Matches? Not sure. Really need to see it at a show. If it was sold in 1939/40 it should show up on the SRS list. It looks like it was put away years ago, but why no paper trail? They want real money for a "perhaps" rifle.

I see nothing, except the Star Gauge barrel that would lead me to believe this is a NM rifle. It MAY have started out as one, but the drawing numbers which appear on the stock are not proof - those appeared on a large number of late 1930s stocks and handguards. The front sight may be a USMC sight, but was not used on NM rifles.

I note the STARTING bid is $3500 - no telling what the reserve is for a non-listed POSSIBLE NM rifle with several non-correct/original parts.

no...nice rifle, but, not a match rifle, and not a USMC rifle.
home made rear sight hole, Bill Bentz front sight, and Sarco cover, bolt isnt a NM bolt..
    and isnt a USMC bolt..
3500.00 is a dreamer price at best.
punch mark doesnt stand for replacement barrel.. i have several new unissued new barrels with a punch mark..it was likely a visable proof mark..
