Rolling block project

[Salt Flat]

This is a Swedish (Carl Gustaf) rolling block that I have been working on. I picked up the acton about 10 years ago. The 26" barrel was a Green Mountain 45-70 blank that I taper turned, threaded and chambered. The hardest parts were locating and cutting the extractor groove and matching the clearance cut for the breechblock with the breech end of the barrel. Also plugged the rimfire hole in the breechblock and machined the centerfire hole. Clocking the barrel, achieving headspace and clocking the extractor groove were all challenges. In the end everything works as it should. Next is to finish the barrel external polish and start on the stock. I like the patina on the action so will leave it as is. The last picture is the stock blank I found at a gun show. This will be a strictly black powder and cast bullet number as these aren't the strongest actions out there. Salt Flat

Dang, that is a nice stock blank! Although I have looked at blanks on and off, I haven't seen anything like that one! Nice find!!

That Roller is in great shape! The barrel is real nice that you put on. As you know from some of my posts, I am still debating on the barrel type to put on mine.

Mine was junk and I have post photos before. Besides installing the 22 rim fire liner and converting the breeck block to rim fire (I can go back to center fire too) I think the most important thing to do is fix that awful trigger pull ! I made a trigger and sear than bent the lower tang to form a pistol grip. I used a piece of Calif walnut and also made the scope blocks.This rifle was in 43 cal and was rusted so bad the breeck block would not close. Midmich, Thanks--I feel pretty lucky finding that blank. I'm almost afraid to cut into it. Which action do you have?

RCS, I think the .22 conversion is a great idea for these actions. Your machine work and extractor look awesome. (nice color case and lower tang work also) I know what kind of effort it takes for this. Salt Flat

RCS, After seeing the excellent way you handled the lower tang bending and spring mount, I think I am going to bend mine also. I'm glad I saw your pictures before cutting into this stock blank! Salt Flat

I had a one piece blank of Calif walnut that I used on the Remington rolling block, buttplate is a checkered Remington 513 steel buttplate.

Ruger No 3 photo has a heavy barrel, Canjar set trigger and a two piece set of birdseye that a friend bought for me at the gunsmith school in Colo. Birdseye is more difficult for me to work with on stocksAttachment 42442Attachment 42443
