Square S rear sight

I would appreciate opinions and input on this rear sight to determine if it is genuine/ authentic or not .

The shiny spot on the left rear corner has been peened and the flash hits it at a different angle, it’s not a repair.

First three numbers of the serial would help. I think the rear sight is real but I do not see the chisel marks on the right side of the dove tail. The sight is more left, a sign of a un-messed with rear sight. For some reason more left is typical for a carbine. It is an early gun with the right spring tube.

Yup old eagle eye Budda spotted it for sure as being a spring tube. The sight is original and not a repo as Budda said. Hummm seems Budda knows a lot about carbine eh?

Serial number is 1,042,---. It's not pristine, but not too shabby either.

There are a lot of nice parts on that Winchester.

So much more character than a put together example. Just a great carbine. How someone could prefer a corrected carbine to this is beyond me.

Rear sight is a good one! Carbine is a good one, no, a real good one! It looks the part. That is very nice indeed.

I did not think, I said it was a repro rear sight? I thought all I said was, it was real but there were no the chisel marks on the right side of the dovetail which is typical. I read somewhere years ago that if a rear sight went on hard, it was not staked in. This one must be one of those. That is what I meant to say.

Roger, You said it plain enough the first time. Not questioning the sight. Being more left with no chisel marks. Many probably didn't know that.
BQ stands alone, no doubt. A great wealth of knowledge. Unfortunately he doesn't frequent here very often. Definitely our loss.

But the one thing I am surprised on is the staking on the left side. That is not what was normally done as the dovetail tapers closer on the left side and a staking of the dovetail would not have been needed to keep the sight in place especially if the sigh was real tight going in and no staking required on the right side.
