    Help with Saginaw S.G.

I recently purchased an Saginaw S.G. (SN 3409xxx) It is a beautiful weapon, but somewhere in it's ownership history someone took this original carbine and modified it to be a functioning ceremonial gun (VFW?, American Legion?). The stock is the prettiest I have ever seen with no dings or evidence of battle use. It appears to have been lightly sanded as the original manufacturer's cartouches are faint. The butt plate, recoil plate, bolt, slide, trigger, barrel band and swivel have all been chrome or nickel plated. The remaining non chromed parts are all S.G., too. The barrel and receiver have been blued and a Herter compensator has been added to the end of the barrel. I am not sure what I should do as far as restoring the carbine to it's original condition. I found a local metal shot that will strip the chrome for about $100. I am not sure how the compensator is mounted to the barrel......my guess is that is threaded on. My original thought was to strip the chrome, replace the barrel with one that is appropriate for the SN and then have all the parts (barrel, receiver, and the parts listed above) reparked by CMPicon. I would appreciate any advice you could send my way about either restoring it or just leaving it alone. I can send photos........just PM me your e mail. Thanks guys.

    Removing the plating.....$100
    Barrel.............................$200-$250
    Repark..........................$100

Maybe need to swap out a few parts that could be wrong.

You could be adding over $500 to your carbine. Add that to what you paid for the carbine, I don't know if it would be worth that to me.
