matching a receiver to a new forestock....

Oh boy am I having fun with this.

I got a new no4 mk2 so called "un-issued" stock for a no4 mk2 to de-sporterise it. After quite a few hours of head scratching my conclusion is it was un-issued because I think the "hole" for the receiver was machined too deep and hence rejected. So I added a 1mm / 40thou wood plate along the length of the "hole" and to the re-enforce expecting the remove some of that to get the right depth. Does anyone have a drawing showing some points along the wood that I can measure to determine this? I think i should be closer to 0.75mm / 30thou....

Or is there a imaginary water line you can draw along the receiver? It is going to vary a bit, sure. Fitting this damn thing seems to be a very iterative process, alter one thing and some other point may no longer be right.

The other thing is just how tight should the draws be? I am finding if its too tight that you cannot get the stock all the way into the wrist and hence have excessive nose loading.

Look up Peter Laidlericon's article on fitting a foreend.
