Very nice, I take it that's an original converted stock too? Your rear sight is cranked way left, is that where it zeroed? Wouldn't matter...I'd take another, specially that early. The closest I came in past years was two rifles with three digit serials and a 35xxx rifle. I should have bought that last one...maybe all of them.

Jim, my error in leaving the rear sight in that position (if you had to use that location to zero in you would have a problem somewhere). My other favorite five digit took a number of years to complete without using repro parts. (I have since changed the clip latch sine these photos were taken)
For example:
the gas trap barrel came from Carson City NV, the stock from the Wisc barnwood, the receiver from Mr Otte in St Louis, gas cylinder from Calif, keystone spring from Iowa, front
handguard with ferrule from Texas etc. I really doubt anyone could complete the restoration of a gas trap with original parts nowdays - better off just buying the repro gas trap kit and enjoy it !Attachment 52514Attachment 52515Attachment 52516Attachment 52517Attachment 52518Attachment 52519

Back in the day, Gas Traps were so rare that the only way most of us could obtain one was to restore a receiver. Fortunately, early parts were not as scarce as they are today (damn GCA has shown everybody what to look for LOL). I have often told the story of advertising in SGN for a GT gas cylinder and getting two replies, one for $35 and one for $50. I took the cheap one and turned down the "expensive" one... after all, who would need more than one? Ouch.
