Spent the last couple weeks searching info about a SS# engraved on the outer Op slide arm.
The New owner ( A Retired Pro NBA Player) brought it to me to checkout for him.
Was bought from a estate sale of Deceased Ret. LT. Col. Sigvard C. Swanberg
He flew his 30 missions over occupied Europe in B17's. Highly decorated.
The owner has dug deep in to "Swanies" records. So he gave me stacks of paperwork from the USAF, National Archives etc. Swanie retired here in Michigan and lived near one of his earlier stations, the old Wurtsmith Air Base, near Oscoda MI.
So far other than his SS# engraved on the slide I can find no record of his ownership. Then again I think putting your SS# on something should be enough proof you owned it. Estate sale dates are well before any of the dated records requests or searches.
I found one link on his military records that during his leisure time he enjoyed shooting the .45ACP and M1 carbine at the Lakeside Rifle League on a 1947 dated document.
Yesterday I found his house is still listed for sale. He died July 22-2011.
No in state family.
The new carbine owner has tried repeatedly to contact surviving family, but hasn't got any responses or replies. May be a dead end considering they did sell everything off.
A shame really as he's went so far as to have the LT. COL. Medals.. etc recovered.
I'm about 175 pictures in to documenting this one.
Looking forward to sharing it.
Maybe just a quick peek??
Cheers,
